How the word unscrambler works

WrdUnscramblr takes the letters you type and checks them against a dictionary of hundreds of thousands of English words. Any word that can be spelled using only the letters you provided — without repeating a letter more times than you have it — is shown in the results. Answers are grouped by length so you can scan straight to the longest, highest-scoring play.

  1. Type up to 15 letters into the box above.
  2. Press Unscramble or hit Enter.
  3. Browse the results, grouped from longest to shortest word.
  4. Open Options to narrow the list by starting letter, ending letter, required letter, contained letters, or exact length.

Tips for getting better results

  • Filter by length

Stuck on a 6-letter crossword answer? Set the length filter to 6 to hide everything else.

  • Use the required letter

When a tile must be played (like a bingo bonus square), drop it into "Required letter" so every result includes it.

  • Starts and ends with

Already have part of the word? Combine the starts-with and ends-with filters to lock down the shape.

  • Pivot off existing tiles

In Scrabble, include the letter on the board that you plan to build off — the results will show every word that hooks onto it.

Frequently asked questions

+Is WrdUnscramblr free to use?

Yes. WrdUnscramblr is completely free. There is no sign-up, no daily limit, and no paid tier. You can unscramble as many sets of letters as you like.

+Which dictionary do you use?

We use a large open-source English word list with hundreds of thousands of entries. It covers most words found in popular word games, but always double-check against the official word list of the specific game you are playing.

+Will the results work in Scrabble or Words With Friends?

Almost always, yes. Scrabble (TWL/SOWPODS) and Words With Friends use their own official dictionaries, so a small number of rare words may differ. Common plays are accurate.

+Can I include a blank or wildcard tile?

Wildcards are not supported yet. As a workaround, run the unscrambler several times, swapping in a different letter (a, e, i, s, t, r) each time and merge the results.

+How many letters can I unscramble at once?

Up to 15 letters at a time, which covers virtually every word-game rack and most anagram puzzles.

+Do you store the letters I type?

No. Letters are processed in your browser and are never sent to a server we own. See our privacy policy for full details.
